BEHIND THE BRAND
KUŪRO is the creation of Edinburgh College of Art students Aurélie Fontan, Lucy Napier, Maddy Stringer, Megan Nicholas and Rosa Cameron, as part of the 2017 branding project.
The concept we created for our brand was to create an accessories led collection that challenges the concept of a typical Autumn Winter collection. Therefore, our brand is very playful and colourful, something which is not usually seen in this particular season, and introduces interchangeability within the collections looks. This concept is where our name developed from, the word Kuuro means black in Japanese and thus we included in our ethos to never use the colour black and play to the irony of our brand name. Many of the pieces in this collection demonstrate this aesthetic through the use of colour and scale within looks, and the interchangeability of our accessories provides a unique design element.
